Do Direct Entry (DE) students need to print slips and take the JAMB exam?

This question keeps coming up: Are Direct Entry candidates required to take the JAMB exam? I believe it’s time to answer this important question.

Before 2024, Direct Entry (DE) students didn’t Need To Write JAMB

Before 2024, candidates applying for admission through Direct Entry didn’t have to take any exams by JAMB, so they were free from exams.

Until 2023, the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was designed to test applicants for 100-level admissions. For Direct Entry (DE) candidates aiming for 200-level admissions, JAMB or UTME didn’t affect them.

Starting in 2024, Direct Entry students will also have to take the JAMB.

JAMB has recently decided that, starting in the 2024 admission exercise, Direct Entry applicants must also take part in the JAMB CBT.

JAMB has said that the new policy was to ensure that the DE candidates justify the possession of their A’level certificates. The new policy change was also to holistically address all loopholes giving rise to abuses in the DE admission processes

Direct Entry Candidates May Write Post Direct Entry (DE)

While not all universities follow this practice, students applying for 200-level admission through JAMB Direct Entry might need to not only register with the universities but also take their entrance exams.

When it comes to Direct Entry admissions, candidates should be prepared to take entrance exams at certain universities like the University of Ilorin and the Federal University of Technology Akure, among a few others.

Will DE Applicants Reprint JAMB Slips?

Direct entry students might be wondering if they should reprint slips like UTME candidates do. Yes, you should reprint your slips.

The reason for reprinting is for candidates to know their exam centers, dates, times, and seat numbers. Hence, because you’re also taking exams, it’s something you should pay attention to.

Conclusion

As a Direct Entry applicant, you need to reprint your JAMB slip and go to the JAMB exams. Additionally, your chosen universities may also require you to take a post-DE test that’s specific to the institution, not conducted by JAMB.
