WHAT DO I DO AFTER SEEING MY WAEC, NECO, GCE OR NABTEB RESULTS

If you want to know what to do after getting your SSCE results, you’ll love to read this post to the end.

Okay, Lets dive right in.

1. Print and Make Photocopies

Remember, it’s important to not just check your results but also print them. Many students only check on the results on their phones and forget to print. This can lead to problems if they lose the PINs/serial numbers or tokens because if they ever need a printed copy in the future, they may have to buy a new scratch card.

The best option is to use the service nearby cyber cafe or business center. For around N300, they can check and print your results, saving you time and effort. They can also sell you PIN/serial numbers or tokens if you’re having trouble finding them yourself.

A few students check their results on their phones and screenshot the results to print. However, this isn’t the best way. Screenshots may not be clear when you print them. If you need to use your phone, try using the ‘print to PDF’ option after checking for a better and clearer result, so you can print it later with a printer.

When it comes to making photocopies, having two or three extra copies of the results will be useful.

2. Upload Your Results to the JAMB portal

If you took the JAMB exam without your O’level results and you now have your WAEC, NECO, GCE or NABTEB results with you, you should visit any nearby CBT center to upload those results.

Many students who didn’t upload their results during JAMB registration may forget to do it later, and this could prevent them from getting admission. If you’re one of them, please go to a CBT center to upload your results.

3. Upload Results to Your School Portal

Like the students mentioned above, most students have applied for their school’s post-UTME/screening without uploading their O’level results. They used ‘awaiting results’ (AR) for this as well. This means the school will not offer them admission until they upload their results.

However, some schools will keep their post-UTME/screening portals open until all SSCE results ( i.e. WAEC, NECO, GCE and NABTEB) have been released. Others may at first close their portals but will later reopen them for students with awaiting results to complete their applications and update their O’level results.

Other Options Avaliable to You If You Don’t Want to Wait For JAMB

1. Pre-versity A’level Programs

You can apply and get into any university offering A-level programs with just your SSCE results.

These are special programs that let you gain admission into a university without taking the JAMB exam. There’s no need to wait! They’re commonly known as A’level programs, with JUPEB and IJMB being popular choices at Nigerian universities.

This is a nine-month program that, once completed helps you apply for and get into the 200-level of your chosen course or one you qualify for using the program’s results. With this program, you won’t need to register for or take the JAMB exam next year. You’ll only obtain the JAMB Direct Entry form, which allows admission into the 200-level as mentioned earlier.

It is better to pursue it within the university where you want to gain admission rather than going to the tutorial and study centers that are advertised elsewhere.

2. Diploma Programs

Similar to the A’level programs like IJMB and JUPEB, some universities still offer Diploma programs. For instance, universities like Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ahmadu Bello University, and University of Maiduguri provide these programs, which usually last for 2 to 3 years

After completing the program, you won’t need to take the JAMB exam. Instead, you can get the JAMB DE form to process your admission into the 200-level of the university where you completed the diploma (or any other university that accepts their diplomas).

This diploma program also admits you without JAMB; with your WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB result, you can apply.

3. Direct Admission Without JAMB (Daily Part-Time or Regular Part-Time)

Just like the name implies, this program doesn’t need you to use JAMB for applying or getting admitted. You only need your SSCE results.

Most polytechnics offer daily part-time programs, while many universities offer weekend part-time programs, which are considered ‘regular part-time’ the Federal University of Oye Ekiti is known for its daily part-time program.

If you enroll in the daily part-time program at a polytechnic or university, you’ll have classes from Monday to Friday or Saturday, similar to those admitted through JAMB. You’ll also complete your studies in the same number of years (weekend part-time takes one year longer). You’ll be eligible for NYSC when the time comes (unlike weekend part-time students).

In summary, if you’ve gotten your SSCE results and don’t want to wait for or take the JAMB exam, this is a good option for you.

4. Pre-degree Programs

You can apply and get accepted into a pre-degree program at the university of your choice using just your SSCE results.

As I often say, ‘Pre-degree nowadays is more about leaving home and getting ready for JAMB.’ It’s another preparatory (pre-versity) program like IJMB and JUPEB, lasting nine (9) months. After finishing the program, you can use it to enter the 100-level of a university but still, you’ll need to take and pass JAMB, meeting your school’s required cutoff mark, to secure admission.

In simple terms, pre-degree programs don’t guarantee admission; you’ll still need to take and pass JAMB before you can get admitted. Think of it as an advanced version of ‘extra lessons or tutorials’ to get ready for the next year’s JAMB.

Conclusion

If you’re not aiming for admission this year, make good use of this time to study the JAMB brochure and prepare for the next admission process.
